MOPA Holds Inaugural Meeting; Elects Executive Committee
Thoriq Ibrahim and Mohamed Ibrahim assumes responsibility as President and Vice President, respectively; Ten-member Executive Committee is a strong blend of professionalism, experience and expertise
Male’, 8 September 2020 – The Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) has held the NGO’s inaugural meeting today. At the virtual meeting attended by all founding members, the Alliance elected its ten-member Executive Committee, in accordance with MOPA’s Charter.
MOPA’s Founder, Former Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim was elected as President, while veteran public official Mohamed Ibrahim assumed the responsibility of Vice President, for the first four-year term of the Alliance. Other key appointments included Former Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Hassan Zareer as MOPA’s Chief Finance Officer, Deputy CEO of Manta Air Ahmed Maumoon as Chief Operations Officer and award-winning journalist and writer Mohamed Saeed Moosa Wajudhee as Chief Programme Officer. Rounding up the Executive Committee are top tourism and hospitality executive Mohamed Khaleel, renowned educator Aminath Nihan, popular life coach and fitness expert Lucia Ali Manik, experienced project manager Ali Amir, and water and sanitation policy expert Shaheeda Adam.
The Executive Committee is mandated to oversee administration and monitor all programmes and projects by the Alliance.
At today’s virtual meeting, Founder Thoriq delivered a brief outline of MOPA, including the NGO’s objectives, and emphasized the need transparency, impartiality and accountability, as well as maintaining strict standards of finance and accounting. He also spoke about the importance of gender equality and mainstreaming in all aspects of MOPA’s work.
