MOPA’s flagship Island Plastic Collection Project reaches half a ton of successful PET repurposing

Male’, 16 February 2021 – The Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) has announced that the organisation’s flagship Island Plastic Collection Project has completed the landmark of half a ton of PET repurposing, with the arrival of the latest supply transfer of 12 jumbo bags of PET bottles from Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo.

While plans are afoot to take the project to more sites across the country, MOPA has revealed that the ongoing work with the Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo Island Council has been a resounding success. “The project has been received well among the islanders, with homes and businesses joining in to make the initiative work on a daily basis”, MOPA officials elaborated. Sunday’s arrival of 12 jumbo bags contained over 450 kilogrammes of plastics to be transferred to the Parley site in the capital, Male’.
