Island Plastic Collection Project gains momentum in Gaafu Alifu Gemanafushi thanks to ‘Zuvaan Masveriya’ and team

Male’, 25 March 2021 – The Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA)’s flagship Island Plastic Collection Project has been gaining momentum in Gaafu Alifu Atoll Gemanafushi, with the dedicated support and assistance of popular local social media influencer and eco-fisheries activist Zuvaan Masveriyaa and his team.

With the latest twelve jumbo bag (approximated to 350 kilogramme) load of plastics en-route to Male’ for recycling, the collection on Gemanafushi has been embraced by the island community.

While plans are afoot to take the project to more sites across the country, MOPA has revealed that the ongoing work with the Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo Island Council has also been a resounding success.
