MOPA holds introductory meeting with the Japanese Embassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Ms. Takeushi Midori and Counsellor Ms. Asano Naomi
20 September 2022, Tuesday, Male’ Maldives: Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) President Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim and senior officials had an introductory meeting with the Japanese Embassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Ms. Takeushi Midori and Counsellor Ms. Asano Naomi.
After the initial introductions of both institutions and their teams, Ms. Takeushi and MOPA officials shared their mutual concerns regarding the escalating waste management issues across the nation.
With an introduction of MOPA and its ongoing activities, MOPA officials also shared details of the various projects being carried out by MOPA across the Maldives towards responsibly addressing the issues related to the single use plastics, which is one of the most critical environmental problems faced by the Maldives. In addition to MOPA’s future plans to safely repurpose single use plastics thereby minimizing the number of plastics thrown into our beautiful oceans, some of the challenges and how to overcome these barriers were also discussed in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the MOPA President Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Development Associate Ms. Hashma Haidar and Partnerships Manager Ms. Aishath Shabana.
